What to wear for your boudoir session

So, you’ve booked your boudoir portrait session, or you’re thinking about it…

This boudoir style and shopping guide is to help you find the perfect outfits for your boudoir portraits!

Let’s start with three of my favorite boudoir session “looks”

Boudoir Session Look 1: THE COZY LOOK

I LOVE starting with a loose shirt or sweater to layer over one of your looks (or just as its own look). Think soft off-the-shoulder sweater, loose button up, favorite nerdy t-shirt, something sheer, oversized cardigan, jersey from your favorite team, etc. This is the perfect way to ease into your boudoir session, since you’re a little more covered, but it’s also a super cute, cozy look that’s perfect for the start of your little black book.

Boudoir Session Look 2: BODYSUITS

One piece bodysuits are incredibly flattering on every body. They elongate your torso and emphasize curves in all the right ways! If you’re not sure what I mean when I say bodysuit, imagine that a bra and panty set is the lingerie equivalent of a bikini, while a bodysuit is the one piece version. I definitely encourage you to look for a bodysuit in a fun/flattering color for your boudoir session!

Boudoir Session Look 3: THE BASICS

You really can’t go wrong with a bra and undies set. And these come in so many styles. Everything from what you’d wear under your clothes on a typical day to the completely impractical – but fun – sets that most people think of when they hear the word lingerie.

And don’t be afraid to mix and match with bra/undies sets. They can be complementary colors instead of matched, lace + satin, anything your heart desires.

Tips for your boudoir session

Boudoir Prep DOs

Arrive in loose fitting clothing. Dressing in loose clothes helps prevent skin indentations/marks.
Cut the tags out of lingerie, especially anything sheer.
Get a fresh mani-pedi if that’s your thing, or just have clean nails and feet.
If you shave or wax any of your body hair, do it far enough in advance of the session that your skin won’t be red or irritated.

Boudoir Prep DO NOTs

Crash diet.
Get a spray tan or lay in the sun specifically for your session.
Arrive with wet hair.
Try products you’ve never used before on your face or skin.

First, please keep in mind that you don’t need to have all fancy, expensive lingerie that you don’t think you’ll ever wear again (that stuff *is* really fun to wear and photograph though). I love a cozy look like favorite pjs or oversized sweaters. And everyday bra and undies make the perfect comfy-cute look.

So wherever your boudoir outfits fall on the scale from nothing to full coverage, you do you, and we’ll get you some gorgeous badass images!

About boudoir

and why gorgeous badass?

Being in front of a camera is an awkward and vulnerable feeling for most people. I bet even some super models feel that way at times. Being almost naked (or even totally naked) in front of a camera takes that feeling and turns it up to 11.

But, believe me when I tell you that boudoir is FUN! At least, it is with Triangle Boudoir. It is a fundamental part of my job to make it fun and it’s the best job ever. That’s me over there in the sparkly outfit btw! I’m Elyssa, it’s so great to meet you!

Many of the women I’ve photographed for Triangle Boudoir sessions were hesitant because they thought they weren’t the ‘boudoir type’ – but y’all, listen up, THERE IS NO ‘BOUDOIR TYPE.’

There are only women who sip mimosas, and have a fun, goofy time with me. You’ll feel powerful and sexy as hell, and you’ll end up discovering a side of yourself you may not have known very well before.

And that woman is a confident, gorgeous badass.
