Brewery Wedding with a LARP pregame!

Brewery Wedding with LARP

Susan and Josh LARP’d and then had a brewery wedding!!

An important rule of business is to visualize your ideal client – some businesses even name their ideal client ( Lululemon’s ideal client is named Ocean and she makes a million quarterly (the second part might be an exaggeration)). Well, our ideal clients are named Susan & Josh. I mean, they had a brewery wedding. And they LARP’d, with all their family and friends, that morning. What is LARPing you ask? Live Action Role Playing. Like Dungeons and Dragons, but you dress up and act out your character on a real life scale. Yeah, it’s nerdy. Yeah, John and I are all about that life. There was a dragon. It was AMAZING.

Susan & Josh are both professors at Rollins College in Orlando but wanted to get married in the beautiful Durham, where Susan studied at Duke. The day started with everyone gathering at the Marriott City Center to put on cardboard armor and gather foam swords and maces. Once outfitted and armed, the party paraded through downtown Durham, from the hotel to Forest Hills Park, about a mile and a half away.

Once at the park, the battles began. The heroes were victorious against goblins, orcs, wights, and even a dragon, succeeding in their Quests for the Holy Warhammer of Matrimony, the Battle-axe of Commitment, and the Shield of Devotion. The crowd ranged widely in both age and nerdiness, but it seemed like everyone was having fun. I LOVED IT.

Later that day after showers and naps, everyone got ready for the ceremony – shoutout to Nina from Wedded Kiss who did hair and makeup for the bride and her bridesmaid Colleen – and headed to Mystery Brewing in Hillsborough. The ceremony, held in Mystery’s operating brewery, incorporated a Scottish blessing and hand-fasting, as well as a Polish blessing (featuring bread and wine).

And then, as it is wont to do, the dancing started, and stopped only for toasts and cake.

We snuck out with Susan & Josh for some blue hour portraits.

Having a brewery sized beer fridge as your backlight is pretty cool.
