Y’all, I was SO ready for this lemur center wedding!! It’s been a while, since they had to postpone due to COVID, but you may remember Cesar & Samantha from their engagement session at Duke Lemur Center back in 2019. Well, we finally got to have their intimate wedding with the lemurs this past weekend and it was delightful.
It was such a relaxed day, and the weather could not have been more perfect. Samantha & Cesar arrived just a bit before their ceremony for a first look and some portraits and then Cesar welcomed their guests until it was time for everyone to make their way down to the ceremony location, a large arbor surrounded by lemur enclosures.
Check out some previews of their day.
Okay yes, those are orangutans checking out Samantha’s dress, but we had a little lemur friend display the wedding rings!
The happy couple!
With their perfect lemur details: Cesar’s lapel pin, and Samantha’s aye-aye lemur necklace. Learn more about the aye-aye!
Before the ceremony, Samantha & Cesar’s guests (just their immediate families and a few friends) got to see the lemurs who were hanging out in the enclosures surrounding the ceremony space.
When it was time for the ceremony, Samantha & Cesar processed in together to start and then split around the circular walkway to meet back in the middle under the ceremony arbor. I love when couples do things like this – if it’s untraditional, but feels right to you, go for it!
Most of the lemurs watched on, but these two were more interested in eating one of the congratulatory signs
Cesar & Samantha’s officiant was Cynthia Wooten, a humanist celebrant, and the vows and readings were lovely!
Here’s a ring-tail lemur (the kind most people think of) in front of a non-eaten sign!
And here’s the laughter that happened when the lemurs started shouting (for lack of a better word) during the moment of silence.
Since the lemurs can get COVID (and don’t have vaccines yet), everyone had to be masked when we were near them. Can we get a round of applause for Samantha’s mom’s Grogu mask though?
After the ceremony = all the hugs!
and more lemur interactions.
Samantha & Cesar and I got to go back into the area where lemurs get to roam more freely. We had to keep more of a distance due to COVID, but still managed to get a few shots with lemurs and the couple.
And then the newlyweds turned into lemurs!!
We ended the day with some group photos featuring this awesome “postcard”.
Congrats Samantha & Cesar!! And thank you for allowing me to be the one to capture the totally unique memories from a lemur wedding!
