Durham Armory Wedding

Durham Armory Wedding

Haley & Clark’s Durham Armory Wedding

All purple everything at this downtown durham wedding, with a ceremony at Trinity Avenue Presbyterian and a reception in the heart of downtown at the Durham Armory.

Haley & Clark met when they were just two kids going to the youth group at Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church in Durham, NC, so even though they live in Colorado, it was 100% fitting for them to get married in the church where they grew up together and fell in love. These two have been together for over a decade and it seemed like everyone in attendance had known them both for at least that long, so there was so much familiarity and love present all day long. It was truly one of the most joyFULL weddings I’ve had the pleasure to photograph. John really appreciated all the purple (he thought it was a really wonderful day too!!)

The story:

Everyone started the day at The Durham, one of downtown Durham’s hip new(ish) hotels (see also, The 21C and The Unscripted). This was my first time in one of the rooms and I’ve got to say I love the color schemes and I especially love the “Someone in Durham Loves Me” mugs.

Two of Haley’s lifelong friends/bridesmaids have girl scout tattoos with her, so we obviously had to get that shot! The Durham Hotel Wedding, Girl Scout tattoos

Meanwhile, John was hanging out with Clark and the groomsmen, all of whom were relatives (Clark’s brother, Haley’s brother, and two of Clark’s cousins). I love a tight knit wedding party. The Durham Hotel Wedding Groomsmen toast and the groom writes his vows at The Durham Hotel | Durham wedding photographers

Since Haley & Clark were high school sweethearts, a good bit of their love story involved passing notes. They wanted to continue this tradition with special wedding day notes just before their first look, so they both made sure their love letters were ready for that moment. Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church Wedding The bride finishes getting ready for a Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church Wedding in Durham, NC

Goofy wedding parties that help make the couple laugh are the best! Also the best? That veil!! Here’s how much family history is in this church: Clark’s grandfather has a chair dedicated to him that lives in the church. They brought it out to the sanctuary so he’d have a front row seat to the ceremony. Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church Wedding Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church Wedding ceremony from Raleigh wedding photographers Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church Wedding

And the ceremony itself. Y’all. The officiants did an amazing job. Katie & Carrie tag teamed and brought laughter and tears (especially laughter though). Carrie was the youth group director when Haley & Clark met, so she got to take some credit for them ending up together 😀

One risk of a long, flowing veil: it getting caught on things and/or stepped on. The reward is totally worth that risk though, and Clark’s mom and brother jumped in to the rescue. Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church Wedding

Guests gathered around the church steps to blow bubbles and congratulate the couple as they exited the ceremony. Bride and groom exit their Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church wedding to bubbles blown by their guests

But then we snuck back inside the sanctuary for some more portraits. That stained glass!Portraits of a wedding couple sitting under stained glass windows in Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church in downtown Durham, NC Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church Wedding, Downtown Durham Wedding

Then on to the Durham Armory for the party!Durham Armory Wedding, Downtown Durham Wedding Bride and groom enter the Durham Armory for their Wedding reception, Downtown Durham Armory Wedding by Raleigh Wedding Photographers Bride and groom share their first dance at a Durham Armory Wedding from Durham, NC wedding photographers

After the first dance, Haley’s dad welcomed the crowd and dinner was served. Not everyone wanted to eat their vegetables though…

We got to sneak out with the newlyweds for some evening portraits too, and we turned the fountain outside the Durham Convention Center purple. How? With our photography sorcery, duh. After a few more toasts and a heartfelt thank you from the couple, Haley tossed the bouquet and the bride and groom danced with their father and mother, respectively. The bride tosses her bouquet during her Durham armory wedding in downtown Durham, NC The bride and her father share a special dance during this Durham Armory wedding from Raleigh wedding photographers Durham Armory Wedding, Downtown Durham Wedding, mother son dance

Since the night ended on the dance floor, I’ll cap this post with what is probably my favorite wedding favor I’ve seen to date: a soundtrack with music from Haley & Clark’s wedding day! How cool is that?

Congratulations you crazy kids! Hope you have an amazing time beaching it!
