While you’re here on the blog, check out some of my favorites from the Thorpe family portrait session in Chapel Hill on UNC’s campus.
John and I have been doing family photos for Heather & Ryan since Charlotte was just a baby and it has been such a joy to see her grow up. At this October session she was talking up a storm and had plenty of opinions to share. Perhaps my favorite moment was when she *correctly* pointed out that our light (a Wescott rapid box) was an octagon. Later on, she let me know that her favorite shape is a trapezoid. ADORABLE! I’m partial to rhombi myself.
How sweet are these smiles? I love family photo sessions and our weather in the Triangle (with the exception of the hurricane last weekend) has been pretty great for family portraits.
I love just letting families and kids play around and interact with each other during family portrait sessions. That’s when everyone’s personalities shine through and when you see the photos, you’ll think “this is exactly how I see my family.” Now, kids aren’t always prepared to stay smiling for a two hour photo session, so sometimes the personality that shines through is a little bit of attitude. John can usually turn a frown upside down with his silly faces, but I still managed to capture this hilarious side-eye Charlotte was giving when she was “over it”. This collage is all the same photo, I just cropped each one a little bit closer, so you can see how great that face is.
But after a quick moment, back to cuteness:After photos with mom and dad, Charlotte got to be a model all by herself. She should be in a catalog, right?
I definitely encourage incorporating your kids’ activities into our family portrait session. Photos of your kids in their sports uniforms and performance costumes are priceless. Charlotte has started ballet, so she practiced some twirls for me, but mostly ran around in her tutu on the Graham Memorial porch.
And, let’s end with the cutest smile there is:
