Wedding season in NC rarely stops. You can pick just about any month to get married in North Carolina and have a great day. Here are some pros and cons for NC weddings each season of the year:

Spring weddings in North Carolina

Pros of a spring wedding include:

  • Mild temps – It’s not going to be 100 degrees and it’s not going to be freezing, so while there will be fluctuation day to day, it’s not extreme.
  • Florals – Probably the reason spring weddings are so popular. You’ll have peak blooms and the most options when it comes to color.
  • Fashion – Embrace the fun of the renewal season with a happy color palette.

Cons of a spring wedding include:

  • High demand – Spring Saturdays are popular, so venues and vendors will get scooped up quickly.
  • Unpredictable weather – Though the temps won’t be extreme, NC spring days vary. one day may be in the 40s and the next in the 70s. Likewise, rainy days aren’t uncommon. April showers and all.
  • Pollen – Those flowers are beautiful, but they bring pollen and it is everywhere in NC. Have some allergy meds on hand!
  • Lots of holiday competition – Mother’s day, graduations, spring breaks, even St. Patrick’s Day. Give your guests plenty of notice.

Summer weddings in North Carolina

Pros of a summer wedding include:

  • So much daylight – The sun doesn’t go down until after 8 in the summer months – this is great for sneaking away from the dance floor to get golden hour or blue hour portraits.
  • No school – Got a lot of nieces and nephews? friends with kids? friends in grad school? They’re on break, so it’s less stress on those guests.
  • Energy – The summer mindset is just special – every day feels more relaxed and people come with summer energy!

Cons of a summer wedding include:

  • Heat – You’ll want to make sure you have a venue with great AC. North Carolina summer temperatures are not for the weak.
  • Mosquitos and other bugs – They like the summer. Fireflies like the summer too though, and they’re basically magic!
  • Afternoon thunderstorms – These are common throughout the south in the summer. You’ll want to have a good rain plan just in case.

Fall weddings in North Carolina

Pros of a fall wedding include:

  • Weather – Everyone has their own favorite weather, but I am a fall girlie! I love autumn colors and light sweaters. The fall is the most predictable when it comes to temperatures in North Carolina too. Similar to spring, you’ll have fluctuation day to day, but temperatures in September-November are not too extreme.
  • Color – The autumnal color palette is so lovely for a wedding. Pro tip: look up when the leaves are most likely to hit peak color in the region and go after those dates!
  • Light – Light hits different in fall. Golden hour is even more delicious, and sunset colors are extra saturated.

Cons of a fall wedding include:

  • High demand – Where I am in Raleigh, fall is the busiest season for wedding vendors. We’re usually booked every weekend between mid-September and Thanksgiving. If you want a fall wedding, book everything early.
  • College football season – If you are college football fans, there’s a chance you’ll need to book a venue before the football schedule drops, which means it may overlap with a big game.
  • Back to school time – The fall is the start of the school year, which means it can be harder to get away from regular life.
  • Limited floral selections – Things are going out of season.

Winter weddings in North Carolina

Pros of a winter wedding include:

  • Romantic vibes – Cuddling up together, candlelight, fire pits. Winter is the most romantic season.
  • Potential for snow – This isn’t that likely in the eastern half of North Carolina, but a possibility in the mountains, especially in the middle of winter.
  • Least competition – Winter is the slowest season for weddings in North Carolina, so if it’s your ideal, you shouldn’t have that much trouble finding a great venue and vendors.

Cons of a winter wedding include:

  • Weather – This is an important consideration if you have guests coming from out of state. Winter storms may create travel delays for friends or family coming from farther north.
  • Holidays – In early winter, you’re competing with a lot of major holidays. Make sure you send your save the dates early if your wedding is around these major holidays!
  • Early sunset – If you want group and couple portraits in daylight, they need to happen quite early in the day

So, what is the best month to get married in North Carolina?

You can’t go wrong with any particular month for a wedding in NC. I suggest making a list of factors that are important to the two of you. Maybe you hate the heat. Maybe you’re both teachers and summer is the best option. Maybe you love a particular venue that has magnolias in peak bloom at the end of May.
