We here at Kivus & Camera are a little offbeat and we LOVE FUN. Parks and urban areas are great, but the most fun engagement photo ideas are the offbeat ones. Think movie theater, arcade, paintball!

A Barcade
Barcades, for those who aren’t familiar, are exactly what they sound like. A bar + an arcade. They started to become popular as kids who grew up in mall arcades allegedly grew up. What more can you want than skeeball and a local draught beer though? Maybe Mortal Kombat plus a whiskey sour? Such a good option for a couple that loves to have fun together.

The NC State Fair
I LOVE THE NORTH CAROLINA STATE FAIR! Sorry, but that has to be shouted. There’s so much color, tons of people-watching, crazy rides, games, and all the fried food you can imagine. If you’re game for chaos, a fair is one of the most fun engagement photo ideas out there. The caveat, of course, is that the fair only runs for a limited amount of time each year. Local fairs work too though!

The Movies
Cinema, baby! In high school, I worked at a movie theater. Many people become disillusioned by their first job, but for me it just cemented my love for movies. You can find me at the Raleigh Alamo pretty regularly. Asking your favorite movie theater to do some fun engagement photos is a great idea!

Someplace meaningful to you
Where did you meet? Where was your first date? Where did you get engaged? I bet you know the answer to all of those questions, because those places are a significant part of your story. Important places like that are great engagement photo locations. Even if it’s something like a bar or a restaurant, don’t rule it out. You’d be surprised how welcoming most places are as long as we aren’t in the way of them doing their jobs.

A favorite date activity
I like to tell couples to think of their engagement photos as a date that gets crashed a papparazzo (me!). Fun engagement photos should be just like a fun date. So think about what you like to do together. Most anything you can think of can make for awesome photos!

Are y’all homebodies? Maybe a fun engagement photo session would be hanging around your place. It’s a spot where you’re comfortable, you chose the decor, closet is right there for outfit changes, AND you don’t even have to drive. If your favorite date night is snuggling on the couch, cooking together, or playing a board game, let’s do it!

Get wild
One of the most fun engagement photo sessions I’ve ever had was with Melissa & Joe here, who bonded over swimming and jumped in the pool for photos. So jump in the deep end, get dirty, make a mess. You could paint together, have a squirt gun battle, decorate cookies. Just have fun!!!
