Raleigh backyard DIY wedding!

This couple had a DIY wedding in the groom's parents' backyard

DIY Wedding in the backyard? LOVELY!

Dustin & Jamie tied the knot in Dustin’s parents’ backyard and it was a true DIY wedding. These two planned and handled everything themselves, with loads of help from family. When I arrived at the house on Friday for the rehearsal dinner the garage doors were open, and the two-car garage was full to the brim with all the rentals to turn the backyard into a ceremony & reception space.

Truly though, if you’re working on a DIY wedding, you need a village like these two have got. Their friends & family were invaluably helpful.

Check out a little preview of their day:

I loved these giant cork letters!

And this is Kevin Bacon and his handler, getting everything ready for the pulled pork dinner! (I didn’t name him Kevin Bacon, it took me 20 minutes into the rehearsal party to realize that they were talking about the pig that would be smoked the next day)

This bell ring signified it was time to get seated for the ceremony.

Jamie & her mom looked so great walking down the aisle. And if you look closely, you can see a portrait of Jamie’s dad attached to her bouquet.

This bride's mother walked her down the aisle and they shared a beautiful, emotional hug You should absolutely be laughing during your wedding ceremony Ask your photographer to get this angle during your first kiss at your wedding

Perfect sweet ceremony filled with laughs and smiles!

Incorporate family heirlooms into your wedding day

Since Jamie had two wedding bands (to sit on either side of her engagement ring), Dustin got to put another ring on her after the ceremony.

And then friends & family brought all the chairs over from the ceremony to the reception table.

And before we knew it, it was time to sit down for dinner.

I loved that Jamie rocked a napkin bib! Gotta protect the dress from BBQ sauce drips!

I don’t know why, but I really love this photo. Okay, I do know why. It’s that face in the middle. And the shadow.

The evening was mostly for conversation and lawn games, but there was a little bit of dancing too!

And Sambuca shots!

Some bubbles for goodnight (even though I’m positive this group partied longer!)
