Durham Central Park Wedding - Liv & Leah

Those fashionable folks above were hitched at Durham Central Park at the end of May, on a drizzly spring day. Liv & Leah’s day was the most beautiful demonstration of community. These two really value the people in their lives and it’s clear that those people love them just as much.

The day started at an AirBnb in downtown Durham, where the couple were hanging out with their moms and best friends while getting ready. They hadn’t seen one another’s outfits yet, so when it came time to get dressed, the room divided. That way, Liv & Leah could have a reveal of the finished looks.

After their first look, the almost-weds headed to Durham Central Park for their ceremony and reception. At Durham Central Park, their friends and family were setting up flowers on the tables for their DIY reception. Liv & Leah got to see their beautiful ketubah (made by a friend) and greet guests before the ceremony started with a song from a friend. Another friend officiated. Liv & Leah incorporated a Quaker inspired period of silence during the ceremony, allowing their guests to share and speak to/about the couple and their community.

To wrap up the ceremony, Liv & Leah exchanged vows, rings, and a kiss.

Remember how I said it was drizzly? Well, a mud pit developed, and the newlyweds’ niblings took so much advantage of that + the bubble guns. They were having the time of their lives!

When the sun disappeared beyond the horizon, the ice cream truck arrived and the dance floor got going. One of my favorite things was how the couple and their friends and family fully embraced wedding crashers. Since Durham Central Park is in the heart of downtown Durham and close to some apartment buildings, plenty of people were curious about the event. Several decided to join the dance floor and enjoy some ice cream. No one batted an eye. The crashers became part of the community.
