Colleen & Joe’s Grove at City Market Wedding
Here’s the second of the two weddings I had at The Grove at City Market this spring! These two couples also both had cocktail bar engagement photos! Here’s Colleen & Joe’s.
Colleen is one of the first people to trust me with photographing her! We met in a dance fitness class (she’s actually a dancer, I was just doing my best to find the beat, let alone stay with it). That was years ago (I’m not going to say how many because it makes me feel old), and we’ve had a lot of fun over those years. I was so honored when she asked me to photograph her & Joe’s wedding.
I still remember when she first told me about Joe – she was so cautiously excited about this cute comedian she’d been on a few dates with – and it was a delight to witness them tying the knot – they truly make each other so happy. Here’s the photographic evidence:
This next photo requires a bit of context: Joe suggested he hide behind this bush and then jump out to scare Colleen for a bit of an untraditional first look 😂 . He ultimately decided against it, since the bush was clearly a bit too small.
Joe’s best man, another comedian, managed to steal the show for this frame and he’s truly doing a hero’s work.
Their officiant, Gwen Downs, did a wonderful job telling the couple’s love story and there was plenty of laughter all around.
Before we knew it, it was time for the reception, starting with Colleen & Joe’s first dance and their parent dances.
Here’s a dose of instagram vs. reality for you: Colleen’s veil was pretty heavy, and John had to be really careful as he tossed it. This first image was a win, but we had 2 or 3 of the second moment too.
Time to party!
Their nieces and nephews were adorable and really loved the dance floor.
One of my favorite newer wedding traditions is having a private last dance as your guests get ready for the exit.
