Chapel Hill Elopement slash Zoom Wedding

Clara & Oliver’s Live-streamed Chapel Hill Elopement

I’ve got another micro-wedding for y’all! This one’s a stunning Chapel Hill elopement from sunny Saturday afternoon. Clara & Oliver tied the knot on a dock overlooking a pond near a relative’s house in northwest Chapel Hill. The spot was perfect – the pond (with a fountain!) was nestled between forest and an amphitheater that was hosting a neighborhood concert later that evening.

We were a little worried the day would be rainy due to the aftermath of Hurricane Laura making its way through the Carolinas, but by about 3pm all the bad weather had blown through and by the time their 5:15 ceremony was starting, the sun was shining in its full glory.

It was a small gathering: just the couple and 5 guests, but there were many more people following along via Zoom, so you’ll definitely see some evidence of technology.

Enough words though, how about some photos?

We started straightaway with the ceremony, and Clara had a long “aisle” to walk down, as she circled around the pond to the dock

And the couple’s parents watched via zoom. I love that they were dressed up even though they were attending the wedding from their living rooms.

After the ceremony, Oliver and Clara spoke to their guests and then listened to toasts from their parents via zoom. It’s definitely hard to not be able to have that happen in person, but the emotion came through and risk was minimized to protect their loved ones.

After toasts, some cake. Unfortunately you can’t share cake via zoom, but hopefully the virtual attendees had something delicious to celebrate with too.

This is just one panel of the zoom guests. There were at least six or seven more screens of friends and family tuning in from around the country.

And then we snuck away for magical forest portraits.
