Jenny & Alex’s backyard Raleigh Wedding

Who remembers these two from their engagement session at their new-ish property just outside of downtown Raleigh? Well they got married at said house on Saturday and it was a perfectly Raleigh wedding, with mac and cheese from Donovan’s Dish, beer from Bhavana, portraits at Pullen Park, and fireworks to cap off the night.

Even though Jenny started the day a tad bit hoarse and had almost completely lost her voice by the end of the evening, she was nothing but smiles all day long, and Alex’s grins were wide enough to match. Their energy was completely contagious too; all of their friends and family were clearly having a wonderful time.

Getting ready

Jenny started the day at the main house, while Alex got ready at his own house back in Apex. Now that they’re married, this house you see below will truly be theirs as a family. I find that super romantic and sweet and it’s made even better by how much work they’ve put into transforming the place.

First Look and Portraits

Once Alex was ready he headed over to meet Jenny, and they had a first look under the crepe myrtles in their front yard. This great little paved courtyard also served as the cocktail hour space. 

For group portraits, everyone piled into a party bus for a quick trip to Pullen Park. We found some shade and had some fun with portraits, even stopping by the carousel. 

Raleigh Wedding Ceremony

Back to the house for the main event; Jenny & Alex had a beautiful ceremony setup by the pond in their front yard, with Jenny’s sisters and Alex’s kids standing by their sides. Jenny’s brothers and Alex’s sister delivered readings and sang songs, so it was truly a family affair. Love and laughter in spades!

I especially loved Alex’s and his kids’ reactions to Jenny to walking down the aisle.

You really can’t beat this for a ceremony backdrop, especially with the sun low in the sky behind the trees. Stunning.

They’re married! And quite clearly thrilled!

Cocktail Hour and Sunset Portraits

The Bhavana beers started flowing and Donovan’s Dish had some delicious apps making the rounds while guests played lawn games and jumped in front of the DIY photo booth backdrop. 

We couldn’t let the golden light sink away behind the tree line without getting a few more portraits of these two though. 

Backyard Raleigh Wedding Reception

Everyone shifted to the backyard for the party, where blue and ivory details decorated everything under a market-light lit tent.

After toasts and special dances, the party got going, powered by DJ Mark!

And when you’re partying hard, you work up an appetite for sweets, so there was obviously some cake!

But the very end of the night was perhaps my favorite. Jenny & Alex ran through a sparkler tunnel and came out the other end to an incredible fireworks display. PURE MAGIC.
