Kelsey & Ed’s misty mountain wedding outside of Asheville, NC
We spent a lot of time in the North Carolina mountains at the start of this month. After Briana & Jesse’s starry affair, we headed to a mountain cabin venue (Whiskey Rock) for what I’m calling Ed & Kelsey’s misty mountain wedding. I’m not just calling it that for the Lord of the Rings reference (but that helps): it was drizzly for pretty much the whole day which left low-hanging misty clouds hovering over the blue ridge mountains surrounding the cabin.
Ed & Kelsey and their planner Sarah with Gro By Love Events took the rain in stride and pivoted elegantly from the planned outdoor ceremony to setting up the cabin’s great room as the perfect intimate wedding ceremony spot.
Here’s the main entrance to the mountain cabin where they had their wedding. If you look closely at this photo you can see the mist above the mountains in the mirror sign!
Kelsey’s flower girl’s reaction to seeing her finished look was EVERYTHING! And so was Kelsey’s laughter as her mom got real close and personal helping her into her dress.
And speaking of reactions, Kelsey’s dad was adorable at their father-daughter first look.
No first looks for the happy couple though, just a first touch. (Don’t worry, we ensured they didn’t peek through the door’s window panes!)

We found* a little bit of sun for a minute.

Here’s Sarah from Gro By Love springing into action to attempt to help Kelsey remove a splinter.
Back inside, the cabin had turned from ceremony site to intimate dinner reception and dance floor.
I’m obsessed with this moment of Kelsey dancing with her mom and step-mom, all of them laughing and singing along. PURE JOY Y’ALL.
And Ed’s mom was all smiles dancing with him too.
The couple had set up some photos of them as kids around the cabin as decor. They both decided to recreate one of their childhood photos. These were totally independent moments too. I think Kelsey did it first and then Ed decided to do one too, without even knowing that Kelsey had done the same thing earlier. Made for one another!
They DIY’d the reception music with playlists and a rented speaker, and everyone was dancing and having a great time – from the youngest to the oldest to everyone in between.
By the end of the night, there was still some drizzle, but not enough to put out the sparklers for a lovely final moment.
So happy to be part of this day and so grateful to Ed & Kelsey for being great sports despite the rain. The misty mountain landscape actually ended up being the perfect the perfect background for their wedding day!
