Virginia Farm Wedding

Casey & Josiah’s Virginia Farm Wedding

When your dad owns a great looking farm, you have a farm wedding, that’s just how it goes. Casey & Josiah tied the knot this past weekend about an hour outside of Richmond, VA at Casey’s dad’s house, and it was such a delightful day. This was our first wedding complete with dinner and dancing since way back in March and it was so much fun.

The day started with Casey getting ready upstairs in the farm house and Josiah running around getting finishing touches in place before getting ready himself in the basement.

And this was truly an affair that shows it takes a village. A friend played the part of coordinator, Josiah manned the speaker system with other friends working the playlists, a cousin officiated the ceremony, and even the food was done by the family. There *was* some outside help though, so show some love to this farm wedding team too:

And now for some images!

Casey’s dad is going to find confetti under his bed in a year. Also, those PJs were the perfect bridesmaid gift. They were super comfy ones Casey found at Target (I think?) and then she customized them all with the ladies’ names.

The couple’s adorable dog Azula came up to say hi to Casey before she got her dress on 🙂

Azula was also outside overseeing the guys putting together finishing touches on the ceremony and reception decor, before they got ready themselves.

Once Casey was ready, she had a first look with her dad and then her step-dad, before a letter exchange with Josiah.

Josiah got led out with his eyes closed and then positioned with his back to Casey so they could read their letters to one another without Josiah seeing Casey.

Love these colorful florals!! And with Josiah’s tie? Perfection!

Casey also had a gift for her mom before the ceremony, and handkerchiefs always come in handy during emotional ceremonies like the one you’re about to see.

I LOVED these dresses. If you’re on the hunt for velvet bridesmaid dresses, check out Baltic Born, because these were awesome.

The guys told me they were going to do a champagne toast. Ba dum cha. But take a good look at those custom flasks Josiah got for his groomsmen. Those are such a great groomsmen gift!

Meanwhile, the reception space was ready and waiting for everyone to enjoy post-ceremony. Any couple who incorporates books into their decor gets bonus points from me. And since it’s 2020, you have to have your custom wedding hand sanitizer. (I laugh because if I don’t this year will drive me even more insane.)

The ceremony backdrop was gorgeous! Those florals are lovely, and the windchimes hung off to one side were a family memento. Always include special touches like that.

This was such a beautiful moment. Casey’s dad walked her from the house to the start of the aisle, where her stepdad was waiting, and Casey walked the rest of the aisle with him.

I really love bubble exits! From the reception or the ceremony.

Also, at the end of the recessional, the newlyweds took a shot with their friend who was coordinating the day. What an awesome first thing to do together.

I love what’s happening in this photo. Josiah is so genuinely excited to be showing off his new ring to his friends and just as excited is the guy showing me who just got married.

Here is a testament to the importance of photos though. Casey’s grandfather passed away recently, but she still wanted a photo with her grandparents together. I can’t imagine what’s going through her grandmother’s mind, but I’m sure some of it is happy memories of their time together.

And the ducks even joined the party, sneaking up on a cocktail set on the ground when someone had to join a group photo.

When I’m setting up a night shot, I like to grab another couple at the party to stand in while I get my light set up. These two are getting married themselves before too long, so they were the perfect guinea pigs for the blue hour in front of the corn field shot.

When we were walking back from the corn field, Azula was hanging out in front of the house, so I asked if Casey & Josiah wanted a photo with her. They said yes, but Josiah pointed out that it wouldn’t be fair to their cat if they left him out. And so Josiah ran off to the couple’s Camper to scoop up the cat.

By that point, it was time for toasts, which were full of laughter. These two know some funny folks.
