Allegra & Joe got married Sunday of Labor Day weekend in Wilmington at the Brooklyn Arts Center. It was my first time at that venue and now I want more weddings there. It’s gorgeous!! Given the Covid situation, Allegra & Joe had only family with them getting ready, but that made for a calm atmosphere, and nothing felt too rushed or chaotic leading up to the ceremony, which was of course live streamed for the friends and family who couldn’t come.
After the ceremony and group portraits, John & I followed Allegra & Joe a couple blocks away to the River Walk for some photos before heading out to Kure Beach. Allegra’s parents have a house on the beach and had tables set up outside for everyone to grab a dinner box from A Thyme Savor and a cupcake from The Peppered Cupcake before walking across to the beach itself. The crowd at the beach was in great spirits and there was much laughter (though not that much swimming).
Next year we’ll have the dance-y reception, but I’m sure Allegra & Joe love that they got to have this relaxed beach party too.

Allegra started her day in the “Manse” at the Brooklyn Arts Center, which is a cute house just next to the main brick church building.
If you recall from Allegra & Joe’s engagement session, I went to law school with Allegra, and with half of the other ladies in the photo below. Lace, in the floral dress, is also a former Kivus & Camera bride, so this was a fun reunion!
Joe was over in the Annex behind the ceremony space getting ready with his dad, brother, and a couple others.
These two look ready to get married…
And here’s the gorgeous space for the ceremony. Complete with facemasks on chairs for anyone who didn’t bring their own.
In the time of small, intimate Covid19 weddings, couples have turned to livestreaming ceremonies. I think this is one trend that will stay even after a return to “normal” weddings.
Saying goodbye and thank you to the guests tuning in via livestream…
… and returning to applause from the in-person crowd.
After the ceremony, guests headed to change into beach attire while we hung out with Joe & Allegra for portraits around Brooklyn Arts Center and the Wilmington River Walk.
Then it was time to head to the beach. Everyone convened in the front yard of the beach house to collect dinner and a cupcake (and load coolers into a truck for the short drive over to the beach access point), before making it out to the sandy shore itself.
Jack was there, and clearly bummed about being stuck upstairs away from everyone. I know he got plenty of attention later that day though.
You’ve heard of one wedding dress for the ceremony and another for the reception. How’s this for a second bridal look? I’m a big fan!
The perfect hat!
And the perfect day.
I couldn’t resist this shot. I think I have four of this koozie.
Even though it wasn’t the most traditional wedding reception ever, there were still toasts – toasted to with cans of champagne!
That’s a wrap! I’ll leave you with these postcard perfect shots of the newlyweds on Kure Beach.
